"That's what, Scotland." The internationalist long poem, in Russia, Scotland and Germany

A journey through the history of the internationalist long poem in the 20th and 21st centuries.

A discourse, weaving between Vladimir Mayakovsky's "That's what" [Pro Eto; 1923], Vita Sackville-West's "The Land" [1927], Hugh MacDiarmid's "A Drunk Man Looks At A Thistle" [1926], and Louis MacNeice's "Autumn Journal" [1938]. Aimed at listeners new to long poems, and poems in general, this podcast explores what it means to be internationalist in poetry, and comes up with some invigoratingly diverse responses.
