Malak al-kashef between transphobia and political oppression

WE invite you to the public discussion on the 23 of June at aquarium am südblock: Malak al kashef between Transphobia and Political Oppression.(mehr)(weniger)Malak Al Kashef, 19, is an Egyptian transgender woman and activist. She is vocal about LGBTI*Q rights in Egypt and known for sharing updates on her transition on social media. On march 6th, 2019, she was arrested at her parents’ house – as many others in late February, early March of this year in Egypt –  for taking public position on the train station accident and the proposed Constitutional Amendments. Her lawyers and friends were prevented to locate her and she appeared in court the next day without any legal support. She was charged with «joining a terrorist group», punishable with a long prison sentence, and «misusing social networks to commit an offence punishable by law», also punishable with a prison sentence. On April 7th, the court ordered pre-trial detention for Malak. She was then held 15 days in solitary confinement. Later, although authorities were provided with medical records documenting her transition, she was transferred to a male prison, where she is at great risk of sexual violence. Malak has already reported sexual harassment and bullying during her early detention. She has suffered an anal examination, a homophobic practice that violates international law and which Magdalena Mughrabi, Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International describes as «amounting to an act of torture».Malak’s arrest and medical examination as well as the accusations made against her violate Human Rights laws and standards to which Egypt has pledged, as well as the Egyptian constitution. The specific mistreatment of trans women by prison authorities must come to an end everywhere. Malak  must be released from prison, the charges against her dropped.Berlin support group Contact us at

Europe should rid itself of the tax havens it shelters withinThe current system has run out of steam

- As strange and as sudden as it may be, thanks to the revelations by several international news sources concerning the magnitude of tax evasion facilitated by a Panamanian firm, elected officials and bank directors, often in collusion with each other, seem to have discovered a durable, well-organized offshore system of large-scale dubious deals.
